This Charlotte childhood milestone session celebrated a very special return — from a first birthday to an energetic two-year milestone. At age two, personality is everything, so this studio session was designed around movement, giggles, and playful moments that feel true to this stage.

We incorporated a large “2” milestone prop filled with soft blue and white balloons for a classic yet fun look, capturing images both with and without the prop to create variety. Knowing that two-year-olds are always on the move, we used a styled chair to help keep things relaxed while still allowing space for play. A quick game of keepy-uppy with floor balloons brought out genuine laughter and those joyful, in-between expressions parents love most.

Five is a milestone filled with imagination, confidence, and a little extra sparkle — and this session was all about celebrating that joyful stage. This Charlotte childhood photography session honored a “whole hand” birthday in the most personality-filled way.

Photographing this family over the years made this milestone even more special. Mom wanted to celebrate her baby girl turning five while highlighting her love for pink and all things pretty. Using my number “5” milestone prop, we created portraits that felt fun, polished, and true to who she is right now.

From sweet posed moments to twirling in her favorite pink princess dress, this session captured the excitement, independence, and charm that make age five such a memorable chapter. This Charlotte childhood photography session was all about celebrating little sister energy. After photographing this family several times — including her big sister’s 10th birthday session — it was time to create something that felt completely her own.

Instead of following in big sister’s footsteps with a dress, she showed up ready to play in jeans and a top, leaning fully into a fun, carefree style that matched her personality perfectly. We used a mix of my studio props along with a custom balloon bouquet and floor balloons to keep the session playful and interactive.

To make it even more special, her mom brought a cake — a sweet full-circle moment since she didn’t get a cake smash at one year. This time, she went all in, creating joyful, personality-filled childhood milestone portraits that truly captured this fun stage of life.

Welcoming new families into my studio is always special — and this Charlotte childhood photography session was no exception. I first met this sweet family during little sister’s newborn session, and not long after, we were back to celebrate big sister turning two.

With their family being military and new to the area, this milestone felt especially meaningful. Mom chose an adorable confetti dress that perfectly matched her daughter’s joyful personality. We paired it with my large number 2 prop filled with soft pink balloons, creating a playful setup that still felt timeless.

From twirling and standing tall to sweet seated moments in between, this two-year milestone session was full of movement, curiosity, and pure toddler joy — the kind of images that freeze this fleeting stage in the most heartfelt way.

We embraced her personal style and captured her natural confidence, using a mix of my studio props and simple, classic setups to let her shine. You don’t need to overthink the details — I help you choose what works best for your child and their age.

A Calm, Guided Session
Sessions are studio-based and paced to match your child’s personality and comfort level. Whether your child is energetic, shy, or somewhere in between, I gently guide the session while allowing space for natural expressions and connection.

Thoughtful Editing & Image Selection
After your session, you’ll receive a curated proof gallery in 3-5 business days.  From there you select the final gallery images for editing.

After your final images are submitted, I carefully edit your images with a timeless approach that highlights your child without heavy trends. Your final portraits are delivered 7-10 business days after submission.  These meant to be enjoyed now and cherished for years to come.

For ages 4 and up, add sparkle and joy to your child’s milestone portraits with a guided glitter or confetti session — enhancing their experience and including additional images to capture the magic.

Sibling Portrait Add-On (Ages 3+)

Designed for families who want to document each child individually while also capturing a few timeless images together. 
  This add-on is available only for children ages 3 and older and must be booked in addition to individual sessions for each sibling.
Back-to-back sessions allow for a small portion of time to capture siblings together,  additional images are included.
Celebrate your child’s 2nd birthday with a large number prop and coordinated floor balloons for playful portraits.

What are some of the best childhood ages and stages to document?

Every age is worth remembering, but many families choose to document meaningful transitions. Age 2 captures big expressions and early personality. Age 5 marks a full hand and the shift into school-aged years. Ages 6–9 preserve the in-between stage with missing teeth, easy laughter, and softer features. Age 10 celebrates double digits and a quiet sense of growing up. Ages 11–13 document early teen changes, growth spurts, and increasing independence. Age 15 reflects growing confidence and personal style, while age 18 marks the final childhood milestone before adulthood.

Childhood milestone sessions are designed to preserve exactly who your child is in this season — before it gently changes again.

How far in advance should I book my session?

Planning ahead allows time to style your child’s session with intention. From choosing outfits to coordinating props and setup, submitting details in advance helps everything come together seamlessly and keeps the focus on your child and their stage.

If you’d like your images back in time for a party, invitations, or a special event, plan to book at least three weeks before you’ll need the photos. This ensures plenty of time for planning, selection, and final editing — without feeling rushed.

Do you bundle your Milestone packages?

While I absolutely bundle packages within the first year.  These sessions stand alone.

What is provided during the milestone session?

Each session is set up a little differently. Depending on the session you book, I customize the set to include props such as chairs, benches, baskets, etc and all the fun little letters and numbers you see in my portfolio. 

How long do the sessions last?

Childhood milestone sessions are designed to be efficient, relaxed, and engaging, keeping things fun while honoring shorter attention spans. Most sessions last 30–40 minutes, which is the perfect amount of time to capture a variety of expressions, personality, and connection without anyone feeling overwhelmed.

By keeping sessions focused and intentional, we’re able to move smoothly, keep energy high, and create timeless images that truly reflect who your child is at this stage.

Can family take part in the session?

Each milestone session is designed to focus entirely on your child, capturing their personality, growth, and this specific stage of childhood. These sessions are kids-only by design, allowing the experience to stay relaxed, fun, and tailored to your child’s energy and attention span.

If you’re booking milestone sessions for more than one child (ages 3 and up), you may add on a Sibling Session to capture a few images of the children together. This add-on is available only when each sibling has their own individual milestone session booked and does not include additional setups or styling changes.

This structure keeps each session intentional and child-centered, while still giving you the opportunity to document sibling connections in a simple, seamless way.

What should we bring to the session?

While I offer a curated selection of add-ons for specific sessions, parents are always welcome to bring special or meaningful items they’d love incorporated into their child’s portraits. Whether it’s something sentimental, interest-based, or unique to this stage, I’m happy to thoughtfully weave those details into the session where it fits naturally.

To ensure everything flows smoothly, simply note any items you plan to bring in your planning questionnaire. This allows me to prepare in advance and style the session intentionally, so your child’s images feel cohesive, personal, and beautifully planned from start to finish.

I have a studio in Waxhaw, NC and serve the greater Charlotte, NC area, including  Indian Land, Fort Mill, Matthews, Stallings, Monroe, and Weddington. My studio is designed to capture a variety of  images for your baby's first year!
