What better way to celebrate your senior year than with Charlotte graduation portraits with your horse? I was born and raised in Kentucky, and as a lifelong horse lover, I know just how meaningful these animals are. Capturing the bond between a horse lover and their favorite four-legged friend makes your senior session truly timeless. Whether your horse has been your partner in the show ring, your trusted trail buddy, or simply your best friend, these senior portraits with your horse tell a story that’s uniquely yours.

How to Include Your Horse in Your Charlotte Senior Portrait Session
Let’s start with your vision with me as your Charlotte Senior Photographer…
Before your session, we’ll chat about how much of your senior portrait time you’d like to include your horse. Whether that’s just a few photos together or a full portion of your session. I typically recommend planning at least 15–30 minutes with your horse and one or two outfit changes to give your gallery variety. This gives you and your horse a few moments to warm up and be photo ready.
If we’re doing a larger session with more than one location, I usually suggest saving the horse photos for last. For single-location sessions, we’ll capture your regular portraits first while a handler preps your horse, then bring your horse in at the end—ideally during golden hour or just before—depending on how much of the session you want your horse to be part of.
We’ll also go over style, outfits, and locations to make sure every detail fits your personality and highlights the special bond you share with your horse.

Charlotte Location Ideas for Senior Pictures with Your Horse
Part of working with me is making sure your session is completely customized for your location. Before we even book—or shortly after—we’ll talk through the best time of day for your chosen location so we can capture your photos in the ideal light. Whether it’s your home barn, a family farm, or a local field, planning the timing ensures the lighting enhances your vision and highlights the special bond you share with your horse. This way, every detail—from the backdrop to the natural light—works together to create stunning, timeless portraits.
At Your Barn
Your home barn is often the most meaningful setting for senior portraits—it’s where your story with your horse truly lives. We can take a mix of riding-inspired and lifestyle portraits right in your favorite spaces.
At Your Family Farm
If your horse lives at home or on your family’s property, that’s another perfect option. Open fields, tree lines, and simple fences make for beautiful backdrops, and it’s extra special to photograph where you’ve made so many memories. And bonus if mom wants to add in a senior focused family mini session to capture those sweet family photos!
Trailering to a Local Location
Don’t have a farm or barn setting that works for portraits? No worries! You can trailer your horse to a local open field or park within the Waxhaw or Union County area for that same warm, countryside look. We can work together to find a suitable spot with plenty of room and soft evening light.

What to Wear for Charlotte Senior Pictures with Your Horse
Western-Inspired
Whether you’re a western rider or just love the look, this style always photographs beautifully. Think jeans and boots, a flowy dress with a touch of rustic charm, or your favorite hat paired with your horse’s western tack. You can go full-out rodeo queen or keep it subtle—either way, it’s all about showing your personality. Yes, this is when those cute boots are so much fun!!
Classic English Elegance
English riders, your style is naturally timeless. Consider breeches and a fitted polo, a simple halter or English bridle for your horse, or even a sleek jacket for a polished look. This style always looks beautiful against barns, fences, or even soft backlight during golden hour.
Bold & Glamorous
For seniors who love a little drama, pair your horse with a gown or formal outfit for a bold, magazine-style look. I’ve seen everything from flowy chiffon dresses to modern jumpsuits—and the contrast between elegance and the rustic feel of the barn is always stunning.

Want to Include Your Horse… Without Bringing Them Along?
Sometimes trailering or prepping your horse for a session isn’t an option—and that’s okay! You can still show off your love of riding and your equestrian lifestyle through thoughtful details.
Here are a few creative ways to do that:
- Bring your boots, helmet, or bridle as props
- Include your ribbons, trophy display, or a championship jacket
- Wear your favorite breeches or jeans with a western shirt and boots
- Incorporate your barn’s colors subtly through your outfit styling
Capturing the Bond With Your Horse You’ll Never Forget
