As a family and milestone photographer, I’m always on the lookout for great local spots where kids can just be kids—and where parents can catch a break (or snap a few adorable pics). So when I kept hearing buzz about the new Downtown Park in Waxhaw, I knew I had to check it out.
And let me tell you… this place delivers. Whether you’re looking for a low-key morning out, a spot to burn some energy, or a place to bring the scooters and snacks, this park is a total win.
Waxhaw Downtown Kids Park Details:
Location: 301 Givens Street, Waxhaw, NC
(Just 1 minute from the center of downtown Waxhaw)

🛝 Playground: Toddler + Preschooler Perfection
The playground is fully fenced (yes, fenced!! 🙌), which already makes it parent-approved. It’s not enormous, but it’s beautifully designed for younger kids, with:
- Multiple swings (yay for options!)
- Creek Wading Area (great for hot summer days)
- Climbing ropes and structures
- Soft turf flooring
- Shaded benches nearby for parents
It’s clean, thoughtfully laid out, and ideal for toddlers and preschoolers to explore independently while still being in sight. I could totally see this being a great spot for fun mom candids!
🛹 Pump Track: Little Thrills, Big Fun
Just outside the playground is a mini pump track—perfect for scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and balance bikes. Helmets are required (and definitely recommended), and while the track isn’t huge, it’s just the right size for younger riders to get the hang of it and have a blast.
If you go during a busy time, be aware that it can get a little crowded, which might slow the momentum for the more adventurous kids—but for most, it’s a total thrill.

🚻 Amenities:
- Clean, accessible restrooms right next to the playground
- Shaded picnic areas for snack breaks
- Walking/biking path that loops around the entire park
- Lots of FREE onsite parking
It’s the kind of park you could easily spend an hour or two at without feeling overwhelmed. Everything is compact but well-designed—plus, it still has that “brand new” feel even months after opening.
