Welcome to my little slice of the Internet! My name is Tobi, and I’ve been a Charlotte newborn photographer for over 8 years. I’m also a proud boy and girl mom, and after raising my own children, I still treasure every chance I get to snuggle babies in the studio.

As a mom, I know firsthand how quickly these newborn days pass. Those endless sleepless nights feel long at the time, yet suddenly, your baby is growing so fast you wonder where the time went. Looking back, the photos of my family and my boys are absolutely priceless — and that’s why newborn family photos are some of the most meaningful images I create in my Charlotte area studio.

Why Newborn Family Photos Are So Important

You’ve just hit that magical third trimester and you are finally feeling great and know you can’t imagine just how amazing it will be to hold your newest little blessing!  Or maybe you just had a baby. You’re tired, emotional, and probably not feeling your best. The last thing on your mind might be stepping in front of a camera. I get it—I’ve been there. That’s exactly why I make it my mission to help parents feel confident, comfortable, and cared for during every session.  And trust me planning is the key!

Over the years, I’ve photographed hundreds of families, and not once has anyone told me they regret newborn family photos. What I do hear is regret from parents who didn’t capture those first few weeks.

Newborn family photos document so much:

  • Parents bonding with their baby
  • Siblings stepping into their new roles as big brothers or sisters
  • The love and connection surrounding your growing family

These are moments you’ll treasure forever, which is why family portraits are included in every Charlotte newborn session.

What to Wear for Newborn Family Photos

Choosing outfits doesn’t have to be stressful. I always recommend soft, neutral tones — creams, tans, light grays, or muted pastels. These colors photograph beautifully, feel natural, and keep the focus on your baby.

To make it even easier, my Charlotte studio includes a Client Closet with:

  • A few flowy, flattering dresses for moms
  • Cozy wraps and knits outfits for your newborn

Every piece is chosen to complement my studio backdrops and make your newborn family photos look effortless and timeless.

Backdrop Options for Charlotte Newborn Family Photos

White, Tan, Gray, or Dark Brown Seamless Paper — Clean & Timeless

A simple, clean seamless backdrop highlights your family’s connection and creates classic, modern portraits. In addition to white, I offer tan, soft gray, and darker brown seamless paper, giving you a variety of tones to match your style. Tan adds warmth, gray gives a soft modern feel, and darker brown creates a rich, cozy look. These options pair beautifully with neutral or pastel outfits and are perfect for families who love a timeless, polished style.

Textured Daybed — Cozy & Natural

For a lifestyle-inspired, warm look, the textured daybed creates soft, inviting images with a boho-inspired feel. Creams, tans, neutrals, and earthy tones photograph beautifully here, blending seamlessly with the natural textures. This setup is perfect for families who want photos that feel soft, cozy, and full of warmth.

No matter which backdrop we choose, I guide your family through wardrobe and posing so your newborn family photos feel effortless, authentic, and reflective of your family’s personality.

FAQ: Charlotte Newborn Family Photos

Do we have to include family photos?
Nope! Family photos are included in my top two newborn packages, but you can choose to focus solely on baby if you prefer. That said, even a few family shots are wonderful to have.

How long does a session last?
Most sessions last 2–2.5 hours, giving plenty of time to photograph baby, parents, and siblings at a comfortable pace.

Can siblings be included?
Absolutely! Including siblings is one of my favorite parts of a newborn session. I capture genuine love and connection rather than stressing over perfect smiles. And baby’s safety remains the top priority!

Where are sessions held?
All studio newborn family photos are captured in my Waxhaw studio, fully equipped with backdrops, props, and a full newborn client closet along with pieces for mom. Or you can book a lifestyle newborn session if you prefer.

When is the best time to schedule?
I recommend scheduling your session when you are just into that third trimester so the planning portion of the process can be finished before baby arrives and life gets a little more hectic.  Then, once baby is here, we can set the actual session date!  That being said, newborn sessions are ideal conducted between days 6–14, but I can photograph babies up to 8 weeks old and still create beautiful images.
