We are about to have so much fun!
I’m so excited to officially welcome you to the Tobi’s Timeless Treasures senior fam! 🎓✨
I’ve been photographing Charlotte seniors for over 8 years now, and it truly is my passion. Every session is an honor—and I cannot wait to create something unforgettable with you. This is such a special season in your life, and I’m here to make sure your session feels as incredible as the memories you're making.
This guide is packed with everything you need—from outfit tips to hair and makeup advice, location planning, gallery details, and more. My goal is to help you feel fully prepared and confident so we can bring your vision to life and capture images that reflect exactly who you are.
Most of all, I want you to feel seen, hyped up, and beautiful every step of the way. Let’s make this experience everything it should be—and more.
My business started over 15 years ago as a mama who got tired of watching her kiddo play defense in soccer and never getting any lens time! I decided to remedy that "wrong" and take a photography class. So yep - I got my start in sports photography.....and my business began!
I have loved growing my craft and specializing in areas that truly fill my heart! I am so passionate about photographing seniors!
I thrive on exploring new areas of the Queen City with my grads and making sure I find the right fit for each and every senior!
When I am not working, consulting, etc....you can find me planning my next outdoor adventure, shopping with the tween, visiting the Penn State grad school meteorologist, or watching some sort of sports on tv....cause I'm forever a sporty spice!
Now that I've told you a little about me and my world....let's get ready to plan your ideal grad session!
Now that you are booked and things are official - let's chat through the entire senior experience - step-by-step! Your senior experience starts NOW and I want you to know what is around each and every corner as you begin to prep for your shoot day!
Now that your session is officially booked—yay!—it’s time to start planning all the fun details that will make your shoot feel 100% YOU.
Start by reading through this Style Guide from start to finish. It’s packed with helpful info—what to wear, how to prep, and everything you need to feel confident and ready on session day.
Once you’ve read the guide, you’ll fill out your Senior Session Planning Questionnaire that was included in your welcome email. This part is super important—it's how I get to know you, your personality, your style, and what you want most out of your session.
Heads up: Parents might be tempted to fill this out for you—but trust me, it’s best when it comes straight from you. This session is all about capturing your vibe, so I want to hear directly from the person who knows that best: YOU.
Also, if you’re dreaming of a cool location like a wildflower field or private venue, some of those spots require advance reservations. I can only lock in those locations after you’ve completed your questionnaire and we’ve made sure the date matches your vision. Some book up months in advance, so getting your questionnaire done early really helps!
Let’s make this session unforgettable—starting with a plan that’s as unique and authentic as you are.
Step one: let's kick things off!
Outfit planning is one of the most important parts of your session—and also one of the most fun! In this guide, you’ll find style tips and outfit inspiration designed to help you look and feel your best. There’s a section specifically for girls and another for guys, each packed with ideas, dos and don’ts, and things to consider for different body types, styles, and comfort levels.
The key here? Don’t wait too long to start planning!
Your outfits do more than just look good—they help me suggest the right locations to match your overall vibe. Whether your style is earthy and laid-back or bold and edgy, I use your wardrobe choices to build out the look and feel of your session. A boho dress in a flower field? Perfect. A streetwear-inspired outfit in an urban setting? Cute floral dress with boots in tall grasses? Jeans skirt and a sweater with boots in a fall toned background? A mix of styles because you booked the Luxe session and we can max out locations? Love it.
To make sure we create the look you’re envisioning, I need to see your outfits at least 3 weeks before your session. That gives us time to talk through what works best, tweak anything that might not photograph well, and finalize locations that will complement your style.
Once you’ve got your outfits ready, snap a few quick photos of yourself wearing each one (mirror selfies work just fine!) and send them my way. The sooner you share them, the more intentional and custom we can make your session.
Let’s make sure your look, location, and vibe all come together to tell your story—exactly how you imagined it.
Step two: whatcha gonna wear!
Once I’ve received your completed questionnaire and your planned outfits, we’ll schedule a quick call to go over everything together. This is where we tie it all together—outfits, locations, timing, and final details—to make sure we’re fully aligned and your session goes smoothly.
Ideally, this chat includes both the grad and a parent (usually mom!), but if it’s just the grad, that works too. It’s a relaxed, easy conversation where we talk through how the day will flow, make any final tweaks, and get everyone on the same page.
This step is a game changer when it comes to making sure everything matches the vision we’ve built together—and it gives you peace of mind knowing exactly what to expect when shoot day arrives.
Let’s make sure your look, location, and vibe all come together to tell your story—exactly how you imagined it.
Step three: let's chat!
A few days before your session, you’ll receive a detailed email from me with your final timeline, exact meeting location, and everything you need to know for the big day. From there, it’s all about prepping so your session runs smoothly and stress-free!
Here’s how to make sure you’re fully ready:
– Steam or iron your outfits and hang them neatly. Yes—hang them! Wrinkles are tough to hide in photos, and carrying your outfits on hangers (ideally in a garment bag) keeps everything looking fresh, especially if we’re moving between spots during the session.
– Pack shoes, accessories, and any props or personal items you plan to bring. Use a bag that’s easy to carry and keeps things organized.
– Check your nails. Clean, polished nails make a big difference since your hands will show more than you might think. Avoid chipped polish—fixing it digitally is not included in your editing package!
– Take care of hair, makeup, or grooming appointments in advance if you’re having them done. Give yourself plenty of time so you’re not rushed.
– Rest up, hydrate, and eat before your session. Being well-rested and feeling good will help you show up relaxed, confident, and ready to shine!
Little details go a long way in making your images feel polished and pulled together—so take the time to prep and you’ll thank yourself on shoot day!
The more prepared you are, the more relaxed and confident you’ll feel during your session. And trust me, that confidence shows up in your photos.
Step four: the ball is in your court now...
Step five: it’s session day—let’s do this!
Today’s the day—and I couldn’t be more excited to capture this chapter of your story!
All the planning, prepping, and thoughtful outfit choices come together now. This is your time to shine, and I’ll be there every step of the way, hyping you up, fixing flyaways, straightening hems, and making sure you feel confident, comfortable, and like your best self.
Here’s what to expect:
– We’ll meet at the location shared in your final prep email
– I’ll help guide you through poses that feel natural (no stiff, awkward stuff here!)
– We’ll laugh, move, and create images that reflect your personality and style
– We’ll take breaks when needed—bring water and comfy shoes if we’re walking a lot
If you’ve followed all the steps leading up to this, you can relax knowing we’re ready and everything is set. Your only job now?
Show up--EARLY, be yourself, and have fun!
This session is about you—celebrating everything you’ve accomplished and everything that’s ahead. Let’s make it unforgettable.
Be On Time
Let’s be real—being on time is one of the most important parts of your senior session.
And no, this isn’t about me—it’s about the sun. 🌅
Your session is scheduled around golden hour, when the light is soft, dreamy, and perfect for capturing those stunning images. That light doesn’t wait, and once it’s gone, it’s gone. So if you arrive late—even by 10 minutes—that’s 10 fewer minutes of camera time we’ll have together.
In fact, showing up exactly "on time" might already be cutting it close. I always recommend planning to arrive 15–20 minutes early. That gives you a buffer in case of traffic, parking issues, or last-minute touch-ups—and ensures we can start shooting right on schedule.
Important note:
If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, your session will be considered a no-show and must be rescheduled. A new booking will be required to hold a second date.
Let’s make the most of every minute—we’ve planned something amazing, and I want you to have the full experience you deserve!
NOTE - Locations are based on lighting requirements and are suggested by photographer after senior finishes the questionnaire and sends in outfit plans.
Cap & Gown does count as an outfit!

I love when seniors want to include their people—whether it’s a quick hug with mom, a sweet sibling moment, or a bestie shot before the session kicks off. Here's how it works:
Family Mini Sessions are add on packages that are senior focused and can be added on to any senior package. These are perfect for capturing those special connections, and they always take place at the beginning of your session. After we finish the mini, I kindly ask that all family members—except one adult (usually mom)—head out or wait in the car. This gives your senior space to relax and be fully themselves without feeling like they’re on display.
This simple setup helps reduce nerves and makes the rest of the session flow smoothly—and trust me, it makes a big difference!
Sessions, time will be adjusted to accommodate a family mini if added. If you're booking the Classic Session, please note that the session is for the senior only unless the family mini add-on is selected at the time of booking.
A quick snap with mom or a bestie?
If you're only looking for one or two fast shots with only one person or pet, we can usually work that into the Signature or Luxe session. But if you want more variety or full group photos, the family mini is the way to go!
Let’s make sure we capture all the love and connection—without overwhelming your senior in the process.
a quick pic with mama will make her smile!
For all sessions, I highly recommend that a parent or guardian—usually mom—tags along. Since most of my seniors are minors, it’s helpful (and often necessary) to have an adult present. They’re also a huge help with outfit changes, holding gear, grabbing forgotten accessories, and generally making the session run more smoothly. (Plus, I love grabbing a quick shot of mom with her senior—it’s always a favorite keepsake!)

For Signature and Luxe Sessions, an adult is required to attend. If no parent or guardian is available and you’d still prefer to move forward, I can bring an assistant to help—but please note this typically adds a $50 assistant fee to your session.
If you’re doing a more relaxed package like the Classic Session, it’s still preferred that someone comes along, but it’s not required. And if you’d feel more comfortable with your guest hanging back or waiting in the car, that’s totally fine—I want you to feel at ease and in your element.
One important note:
I kindly ask that anyone attending the session keeps behind the scenes and avoids jumping in with photo ideas or posing suggestions. I love when someone helps with little things like straightening a necklace or fixing flyaways, but I’ll handle all the directing and coaching to make sure we’re getting the best shots possible. You’ve trusted me with this special milestone—and I promise, I’ve got you!
Aside from choosing your outfits - which we will go into detail about soon - choosing the LOCATION for your session is probably the most important part of your session.
Your location plays a huge role in the overall vibe and style of your senior session—it’s not just a backdrop, it helps tell your story. From the lighting and scenery to how your outfits photograph in that space, the location truly sets the tone for your entire shoot.
When we plan your session, we’ll choose a location that aligns with three key things:
– The package you’ve booked
– The season your session takes place-did you review that seasonal guide? If not:
– And, of course, the outfits you’re planning to wear
We’ll go over all of this together during your pre-session consultation, but I always encourage grads to start thinking about their preferences early. Do you imagine yourself walking through tall grasses in a flowy dress? Do you see bold city vibes with sneakers and graphic tees? Or maybe a mix of both?
This is why the Senior Questionnaire is so important. The more insight you give me when filling it out, the more intentional I can be when recommending locations that match your vision and make sense for the time of year and the outfits you've chosen.
For example:
If you didn’t do a consultation and just selected a random February date based on your availability, we’ll definitely need to adjust your outfit choices to match the season and weather. While strappy sundresses and bare legs might be cute in theory, blue-tinted skin, chattering teeth, and goosebumps don’t exactly photograph well. We’ll find ways to keep your look true to your style and appropriate for the season—without sacrificing comfort or the overall aesthetic.
Same goes for things like wearing a tight black dress and stilettos in a wildflower field—we’ll end up trading dreamy photos for navigating uneven terrain and trying not to sink into the grass.
Your session should feel effortless, not stressful—and that happens when the outfits, scenery, and season all come together in harmony.
So think ahead, get inspired, and come ready to collaborate. I’m here to help you craft a session that’s not just beautiful, but authentically you.
what is it about the location that truly matters?
NOTE - Sometimes grads have specific items they want.....for example flowers are a super common request. And while I really do wish we had a flower field in the Waxhaw area outside of the super late spring-early fall months ....right now that isn't an option so ensuring your expectations are aligned with the session type you booked are super important.
check out the seasonal guide here
I have one request:
and will even give you a pretty please to me on this one!
trust
When I tell you that so many of the images you see in my portfolio were taken in super obscure locations, I really do mean it!
For example, the two photos you see on this page were taken off the side of a road where the grad's mom and I both pulled our cars over to capture these amazing blooms!
Some of my most client loved images were taken at locations I saw while scouting that I knew would be perfect for the outfits a grad selected for their session.
While you might think oh my when we pull up to a spot, I ask that you give me all the trust you can to ensure your images are exactly what you are hoping for! I may have an idea or a location that sounds crazy but it's because after 10 years of finding the best light and composition for my grads to create the amazing images you can treasure forever!
So my biggest request is that you trust me even if I sound crazy town....I promise you will be glad you did!
Each of the locations above can be searched for in google - however- please remember items like flowers, fall leaves, etc may or may not look the same as images you see in google depending on the time of year for your session!

Now let's have some FUN! Time to answer the most frequently asked question: WHAT DO I WEAR?
Choosing what you will wear for your photo shoot is a huge decision that can truly make or break your senior portrait session!
I totally get how intense that sounds but, if you wear something you don't feel comfortable in, that makes you self-conscious, or that doesn't photograph well then it can ruin the experience for you!
So, this is why this guide was created!
This section of the guide will break down all my best tips, tricks and recommendations for what to wear and how to style your session! Along with several fun inspo pics to check out along with way!
hey ladies.....
Use this shoot as an opportunity to have a little bit of fun with your outfits + colors!
On camera, solid black + white can make skin tones look washed out and unflattering.
When choosing outfits for your senior session, try to choose colors that POP and that compliment your hair + skin tones! Primary colors like royal blue and yellow photograph beautifully as well as jewel tones like emerald green, bright purples, pinks, oranges and any other colors that really POP! AVOID greens where you can if you are shooting in spring or summer especially - its really green here in NC so that color tends to blob out and not have enough contrast with the environment.
Sometimes, color combos that may seem odd in-person end up photographing BEAUTIFULLY on camera!
Don’t shy away from color! And VARY your colors in your session! Please don't do 3 "white outfits"!
3. be bold & consider color
THE NUMBER ONE, most important thing to remember when planning your outfits: if it's not comfortable to wear in real life then it won't make you confident on camera!
If you don't like fitted clothing (super tight dresses or pieces that fit awkwardly) then leave those at home! Personally, I tend to stay clear of items that are more fitted in my "insecure areas". For some that may be the tummy or others it may be their arms or legs. If I am feeling self-conscious and I'm constantly wondering if it's looking too tight or shifting too much them I am thinking too much about that over being comfortable and in the moment wondering if I look bad!
So if there are pieces in your closet that make you feel at all self-conscious or uncomfortable then make sure not to include those in your senior portrait wardrobe options.
I also recommend trying to stay clear of anything that you have to constantly adjust or is at risk of being too revealing. You will be doing lots of moving and posing - standing, sitting, and lots more so if your outfit is super tight, low-cut or at risk of slippling while we shoot - make sure to rethink those options!
1. be comfortable
At the risk of sounding 1000 years old and super cheesy, reminding you to stay true to yourself with your outfit selections is so very important!
When you look back at your photos in 20+ years you will want to make sure they truly reflect the you at this age and stage of life! If you aren't someone who ever dresses up or enjoys being more "fancy" then nope, leave the sparkle ho-co dress at home! And definitely don't go and buy things for your sessions that are not you!
If you aren't a girlie girl who loves long flowy dresses....ok.....leave the frill at home (in your sisters closet) and let's dress for you!
Don't ever feel pressured to buy anything new or outside your usual style just because you are getting your photos taken! The entire shoot is meant to be about YOU and this season of life so don't change a thing about you or your style!
2. be yourself
When planning your outfits, make sure that you have a VARIETY of looks!
I tell all of my seniors to choose from these categories: casual, cozy, dressy, school- related, sports-related, preppy and/or edgy.
I always recommend for perfect portraits to choose 2 and for essential experience and up choosing 3-4 of those categories. Finding outfits accordingly. This provides a beautiful array of looks during your senior portrait session, so each outfit looks drastically different and you get tons of variety!
And don't forget to re-reference your session type for the number of outfits each session permits!
And YEP the Cap & Gown does count as an outfit change!
7. mix it up a bit
In the cold months (fall + winter), adding layers to your outfits always looks STUNNING in portraits!
A sweater with a flannel underneath paired with a vest + statement earrings or scarf adds so much dimension to your images and makes for super fun posing options!
Even in the warmer months (spring + summer) you can add these layers + dimension by wearing a tank top with a cute sheer cardigan or by throwing a denim jacket over a dress!
4. add layers
Sometimes textures like feathers, furs and 3D florals can be considered too extra…but, in portraits, they are the BEST!
Adding texture to your outfit can make a huge difference. I also love to photograph pieces with MOVEMENT: long, flowy dresses with epic trains or fun feathers that move when you twirl.
It adds a super fun element to your pictures!
5. textures add an extra element
There is a whole section dedicated to props and accessories coming up in this guide…but it’s honestly one of the most important parts!
Adding accessories like jewelry, hats, fun shoes, purses, etc. to your outfits really makes them feel like YOU and adds a whole new layer of detail to your senior gallery.
I’m a huge fan of statement earrings, a bright lip color, a super fun shoe, colorful bags, floppy sun hats, and cute layered jackets…ALL of these things give us so much more variety with posing + create such beautiful pictures!
6. accessories add so much variety
We will be doing a lot of moving around, sitting, walking, etc. at your shoot.
If the material of your outfit really easily wrinkles...you may want to be careful choosing this.
Pay close attention to textures and remember that not everything is as easy to edit out as you may think!
Editing out wrinkles from a dress can take hours PER PHOTO...which can result in your images taking a lot longer to get back or requiring additional fees for extensive edits.
We all have features we’re a little more self-conscious about—and that’s totally normal! For some girls (myself included!), that might be upper arms or shoulders. So if you know that’s something you're sensitive about, it's best to skip spaghetti straps, strapless tops, or thin-strapped dresses that might leave you feeling exposed or constantly adjusting during your session.
Instead, go for something that still feels fun and flattering—like an off-the-shoulder top, flutter sleeves, or even a trendy puff sleeve that gives you coverage without sacrificing style. Think flowy, fitted in the right places, and most importantly—something you feel amazing in.
The goal is to make sure you feel confident, comfortable, and like your best self in every frame. If you're not sure, try your outfit on, take a mirror pic, and ask yourself:
Would I feel great wearing this all day?
If the answer is not really, it's probably not the one.
3. really pay attention to the fabric
4. Wearing Something That Highlights What You Feel Insecure About
There are a few important things to AVOID that are worth mentioning! So this area has it's own section of the guide to assist with the general rules of thumb on things to stay away from for your best session!
1. pieces that are too sheer or too fitted!
We have already mentioned comfort being key but its a super important part of the session so I want to make sure you remember!
We will be moving a LOT during your session so wearing clothing that have to sit juuuuuuust right in order for you to like how you look or that are at risk of slipping and showing more than you planned are not a good idea!
If clothing choices are super thin or sheer it maybe more see-through in your images and show summer sweat marks during the warmer months!
If you can't bend over without a potential malfunction occurring - consider a different option - being able to move in your outfits in so important for posing!
2. The wrong underlayers!
This is something that may slip your mind as you are planning your outfits…but it is SO important!
Be sure to bring along multiple bras if you are wearing something strapless or that requires a sticky/backless bra.
And, wearing a neutral pair of undies is the best way to go to ensure it’s not showing through anything!
Ladies - TRY ON YOUR OUTFITs and look in the mirror - if you can see your straps - make sure to consider other options
And, one last tip!!
In all of the chaos of senior session prep...don’t forget to pamper your nails!
During your shoot, a lot of the poses we do will have your hands close to your face and in the frame, so make sure that your nails look just how you want! Try to avoid any chipped polish or crazy patterns. You don't want your nails to match exactly with one of your outfits and then clash with the others - so keep it neutral!!!
French manicures, light/natural colors and even nails with no color at all photograph best!!
6. don't forget the nails
I highly recommend all of my senior clients invest in professional hair and makeup. If it is in your budget, hiring a professional for your hair and makeup will make a huge difference in the quality of your photos and senior portrait experience. You are already making a large investment in your senior portrait experience…so why not make it the best it can be?!
Let’s talk about why it can be such a big game-changer for your experience:
1. they are the trained professionals
When you are investing in a professional photographer, you want to make sure that the images look their absolute best.
Professional hair + makeup artists are TRAINED to do hair + makeup so that it photographs well.
While your makeup may look AMAZING in person, it can look completely different on-camera, and these professionals are trained to know the difference! They will conceal spots you don’t like, contour your face so it looks the best at every angle, use colors that compliment your skin to make it look flawless, make your eyes POP with false lashes + shadows, manicure your eyebrows to perfection and more!
2. less stress
Preparing for your senior portrait session can be stressful in and of itself.
Trying to do your hair and makeup by yourself can make things even harder.
Professional camera equipment is designed to pick up every little detail in an image (even details that the eye can’t see) so hiring a professional makeup artist is the best way to go.
I don’t ever want my seniors to feel like their portrait session is just simply “taking pictures”, I want it to be an EXPERIENCE.
So, if my seniors arrive after an hour of being pampered + beautified, the entire experience has already started on a good note!
If a senior arrives flustered or stressed after trying to get ready themselves, it can affect the entire experience, including the way you look in photographs!
3. relaxing during your pampering
Because things like using highlighters and such are discouraged...I have a few experts I have experience using and seeing how their work photographs.
I am happy to share those with you if you prefer....just let me know....and don't forget to book early to make sure you have a spot in their calendar!
4. looking for an expert
If this is not in your budget, that is COMPLETELY okay! You can use these tips to make your makeup look camera-ready yourself:
Plan to wear slightly heavier make-up than normal, including blush and lipstick or gloss that are at least slightly darker than your lip color.
I also highly recommend false eyelashes. These can be purchased for very affordable prices at CVS or any pharmacy in the area.
5. Watching your budget
Looking for hair....I always recommend a simple good blow out with not too much spray so it holds but isn't stiff

Looking for make up artists?
Locations my grad's have used in the past are: Moss & Black, Lucy Rose, LuLu Salon, and some of the makeup artists do hair as well so make sure to check with them too!
Nicole D. Butler - best found on facebook
just make sure they know to keep the look "matte" vs shiny so you don't have a reflective highlight look that shows in you images :)
So listen, I get it....I am probably WAY more excited than you are.
Most of my guys show up with the "my mom made me do it" mantra and are a little more hesitant before the session takes off. But trust me, I promise to make it as painless as possible and give you a few flex-worthy pics for insta so you can have at fun new profile pic and make mama happy too!!!
Your session is going to begin at a pre-determined location based on your answers to this questionnaire. We will meet there approximately 10 minutes before we plan to start shooting so, if needed, I can help you finalize outfit choices! Please try your absolute best to arrive on time, which actually means a minimum of 5 minutes early. As a natural light photographer, your senior session is scheduled around the time that the sun sets. Once the sun is set, we can no longer shoot. Therefore, if you arrive to your session even 10- 15 minutes late, it will affect the amount of time that we can shoot and the length of your session! If you are more than 20 minutes late to your session, we will have to reschedule for my earliest available date (which is usually 2-3 months out - or even later if its during my busy season) and mama will not be happy about paying that rescheduling fee.
First off - DON'T WAIT!!
If you plan to get your hair cut/trimmed before your session make sure to do it at least one week prior to your session. Haircuts for guys usually need a little extra time to lay just right so giving yourself that week will give you plenty of time to get used to styling your cut.
Also, if you have a "flop" aka if you hair tends to go down into your eyes because your bangs are a little longer, make sure to add some product (gel or styling cream) to your hair before your session.....and yep, bring mom's hairspray as well to ensure we can keep your style perfect as the session progresses.
NO HATS.....please make sure to arrive to the session without a hat, but you are welcome to bring one to accessorize as we go.....just don't forget that hairspray or gel if you do!
5. haircuts and style
Ok so maybe not too comfortable.
While gym shorts and a graphic t-shirt might be your go-to outfit, you will want to uplevel just a smidge.
So here is my idea: since most of my guys choose the Perfect Portrait Senior Session this means you will get one clothing change or two total outfits for your session (but NOTE - the cap & gown is considered an outfit)
I advise you choose one outfit that is a little more your style and one outfit that is mom-approved (aka a bit more dressed up).
1. be comfortable
So this is the oufit that is the more representative of you and your style.
In the Spring/Summer this would be a pair of shorts and a t-shirt or even a polo style shirt.
Stay clear of graphic t-shirts though since most of the time the wording can be hard to read in photos. So maybe just a simple t-shirt (just make sure its stain & wrinkle free) in a color that flatters your skin or a simple 3 button collared shirt.
2. one for you
This will be your second outfit and your dressier outfit.
I always suggest one dressier outfit for a variety of reasons: scholarship applications, grad announcements (where you get the cash), a photo for mom to hug and cry over. Yep, that happens....
Choose a pair of pants that fit well (I suggest khakis) and a button down. Try to keep the pattern simple if you choose a pattern and make sure its not too small of a pattern. Larger checks and plaids will photograph and print better than smaller ones.
This is also a great time to bring a jacket for a quick photo that shows you all styled up. Before you know it you will be needing a pic of you a little more dressed up and this way you will have one so it's a quick "mom send me that pic" instaead of having to try to get the stuff together and take a selfie.
Please avoid white dress shirts with kahki/black pants since that tend to look like a server uniform :)
3. one for mom
For your more casual outfit, I suggest clean tennis shoes/vans/sperry style shoes.
For your more dressier outfit, take it up a notch and grab a pair of loafers/brown boat shoes.
And leave the slides at home unless you are just wanting something comfy to walk in between spots :)
4. choose the shoes
Now that we have a better idea of the overall style for your session based on your outfits and locations…let’s add in details! First, let me clarify: this part is TOTALLY optional! If you don’t want to add any props or accessories to your shoot…you don’t have to! All we need is YOU to make your shoot amazing. But, if you want to personalize your shoot even further and add in some fun “extras”...this section of the guide is going to help you! .
WAYS TO GIVE YOUR SESSION A LITTLE FLARE
One of the best parts about bringing extra options for props is that it gives us VARIETY.
If you bring things like hats, flowers, your skateboard, jacket from an activity you love, drum sticks, and instrument....well honestly I could go on and on but I think you get it....this doesn't have to take over your entire session but it can give you a fun couple of shots that add all the extra to your session!
Want accessory ideas? Just let me know and I will help you add a little extra pop!
ACCESSORIES MAKE IT FAB
love your ride?
This is clearly a theme of this entire guide! The goal of adding in props or accessories is to make the shoot feel even more like YOU.
Try to think creatively about the things that make you who you are. What are your hobbies? Favorite colors and styles? Extracurricular activities?
Do you have a sports team that you have loved since you were a kid?
Are you an athlete with medals and trophies that you want to highlight?
Do you already know your plans for college and want to have celebratory images to share about your next steps?
Let’s do all the things!!!
Make it feel like YOU!
Incorporating your favorite things into your pictures can be really creative...and also really funny!
Are you someone who can't live without your daily Starbucks Pink Drink?
Have a Chick-Fil-A obsession?
In love with your car or have a shopping addiction?
Let's brainstorm together to find some fun ways to highlight these things at your shoot!
One of the easiest and best ways to customize your senior experience is to add in some of your favorite things that you do every day and things that make you - well, YOU!
I've had seniors want to highlight the sport they play some with simple shots in their jerseys and others with customized "sportrait" sessions that really add extra flare. Some grab a shot or two with their favorite foods, their love for reading, shopping or flying planes...I've done it ALL!
Use this section of the guide to start brainstorming ways we can creatively incorporate what makes you YOU!
sports and hobbies!
A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS
As a photographer and artist myself, I love finding creative ways to highlight your talent and love of the arts!
If you paint, write, read or are a photographer yourself...let's show that off!
We can find some really fun ways to highlight this, and I would love to have you bring along any pieces you are proud of to incorporate in your images!
HOBBIES & ARTS
Let me just start by saying these are BOTH also sports...but, as a externally retired but internally FOREVER cheerleader, I think they deserve their own section!
I was a cheerleader myself and am raising one heck of a little dancer so these two sports are huge passions of mine, and it is so fun to capture these photos.
Bring along your uniform + poms, or your leo and pointe shoes...we will get some STUNNING action shots for you, as well as the traditional posed images!
CHEER & DANCE
If you play a sport that is a huge part of your high school career...we need to highlight it!
You can bring along your uniform + equipment (volleyball, lacrosse stick, etc.) for some really fun photos.
You can also consider adding in any medals, trophies or letters you have to highlight!
Or we can always do a full customized session that's all about your favorite activity!
ATHLETICS & SPORTS
Already know where you plan to head to school next year?
AMAZING!
The biggest congratulations to you!! If you want to celebrate by capturing some images rocking your college gear, let's do it!
I typically tell my seniors to bring this as an "additional" outfit or to bring a pennant, flag, or even your "welcome to" letter/banner sent to you from your college! There are tons of ways to mark this moment in time so it doesn't count as one of your outfits in your package. We can use whatever you want to bring for a few shots and then you the perfect photo to announce your plans for next year!
YOUR COLLEGE GEAR
WHAT TO WEAR UNDER THAT CAP & GOWN
USE ONE OF YOUR OUTFIT CHANGES
If you already have your cap and gown before your shoot (or want to borrow one or order a cheap one on Amazon) - we can get cap & gown images at your session! Or you can always add on a cap & gown mini session which are conducted in the spring!
While this does count as an "outfit" its a great way to add a little extra bonus to your session.
So let's talk options:
BOOK A MINI SESSION
Sessions are best scheduled during your slower season. Grad season is so crazy busy so make sure to look for the best time of the year to highlight the wild high school adventure. I also recommend that you look at the seasons guide for the best time of year to book to make sure we can fulfill your vision for your grad session!
My booking calendar is kept up to date with each new grad session based on the session type you prefer to book. Select weekend dates are made available in my booking calendar for grads who book Signature or Luxe sessions. During the fall and spring these dates typically book up 2-3 months in advance or as soon as my seasonal calendar launches. So book early if you prefer a weekend session.
I photograph grads all over the Charlotte, NC area…..and will also travel to other fun areas of our country (hint hint wanna head to the mountains or beach?). Each session package provides details on how far out we will conduct your session. My most booked package - The Luxe Session permits for longer drives to locations and extra time to move from one location to another. Once you complete the booking process you will receive a customized grad questionnaire and we will start there in planning the perfect session for you!
What you plan to wear to your session is a BIG part of the grad session planning process! You will receive a senior specific style guide that will help you choose the best outfits for you. It will help you select outfit colors, styles, and accessories based on the season we are photographing your session!
Sessions can not be canceled within 90 days of your session date and any rescheduling requires a 60 day advance notice - session reschedule dates options could be limited during busy season and a new date is not guaranteed within your desired window of booking.
Welcome to hiring a specialized grad photographer!! I have 5+ years specifically working with graduates. So guess what…first off…please know you are not alone. Pretty much every single grad is nervous and unsure of what to do. That is where I come in. I will pose you from the tip of your nose all the way down to your toes…..but that’s not everything!! We will also make sure to capture the candid moments of laughter that show the real you - and we will have fun during the process!
I have photographed everything from pet horses, to pups, goats, and even chickens with my seniors so yes, of course you can! Well behaved pets are always welcome for 1-2 shots during your session! And as for other meaningful items, yes please, have a stuffy you’ve had since you were little, a great book you’ve read one hundred times, or your flag to celebrate your new college adventure.
